Are you new to Substance Abuse Prevention?
- Would you like to know more about the field?
- Who to contact for more information?
- Where to find useful resources, training and other supports?
If you've recently joined a public health unit, FOCUS community project or alcohol or drug awareness group, or are new to the substance abuse prevention field, we invite you to an interactive ORIENTATION session. These sessions are hosted by the Alcohol Policy Network, the Association to Reduce Alcohol Promotion in Ontario, FOCUS Resource Centre, the Ontario Drug Awareness Partnership and Parent Action on Drugs. For more information please contact one of us.
The orientations are done by TELECONFERENCE to reduce costs and allow interested individuals from across Ontario to participate. The first part of the session features basic information on the alcohol and other drug field in Ontario, survival tips from colleagues and a Q & A session. The second part consists of a guided web tour of the websites for the Alcohol Policy Network, the Association to Reduce Alcohol Promotion in Ontario, the FOCUS Resource Centre, the Ontario Drug Awareness Partnership and Parent Action on Drugs.
Participants receive a confirmation package before the teleconference. Shortly after the teleconference an information package is sent out which contains products, services and other supports and basic information to complement the web tour. These are offered by key alcohol and other drug groups that are part of the Ontario Health Promotion Resource System.
The orientation sessions are free, although long-distance charges may apply for those calling from outside the '416/647' area code. Participants must have access to the Internet and a hands-free phone to participate. Space is limited. If more than one colleague is participating from the same organization we encourage you to share one phone line.
